REACH Initiative Marks First Shared Use Event
"It tastes better than chocolate!" is how one student described the apples and cinnamon she learned how to make during the first ever shared use event coordinated by the REACH initiative. The REACH initiative has been working with schools, churches, and other community entities to increase opportunities for physical activity in low-resource areas by implementing shared use agreements. Entities with large space for activity offer to make that space available to other organizations and the broader community to host different types of programs.

REACH has a shared use agreement with Case Elementary School, a K-8 school that serves students and families from the St. Clair Superior and Hough neighborhoods. On November 3, Case hosted the first event at any shared-use site, which attracted twenty-five students, parents, and community members. Rhonda Sharpley, a certified health coach and pastry chef from Healthy Living Kitchen, demonstrated how to make apples and cinnamon and gave bags of apples with the recipe to all participants to take home.
