Six Questions with Community Evaluation Project Coordinator Jenna Brinker
Tell me a bit about your work before you joined the PRCHN. Where did you work and what did you do?
Prior to joining the PRCHN, I worked as a clinical research coordinator at Cleveland Clinic’s cancer institute. This was a fast-paced job balancing multiple genitourinary and breast cancer clinical trials sponsored mostly by large pharmaceutical companies. It was a great lens into cutting edge cancer research as well as the pharmaceutical industry.

Tell me about your education. Where and what did you study? Is your work here radically different than what you studied in college? In other words, has your career path made any unusual changes?
I completed my MPH focusing in Epidemiology about a year ago at Kent State University. My career goal has always been to leverage my education to positively impact the health of diverse communities. I’ve been seeking to be a part of community-based research, hands-on experiences, and an opportunity to integrate myself within the community I’m serving … so here I am!!

What aspects of your new position are most intriguing to you? What are you looking forward to?
I’m most looking forward to challenging myself to gain areas of expertise—specifically within evaluation. I’m also very pleased to be housed within an academic institution, as academia is the culture I feel most alive in. I will always be a student.

What are some of your interests outside of work?
I can most often be found pursuing outdoor activities, traveling or trying a new recipe. I love hiking, trail-running and biking in the National Park. I would enjoy sharing my recent adventure to a wedding in India…or would welcome tips for my upcoming travels in Italy!

Where did you grow up and where have you settled in Cleveland?
I grew up in football town, USA: Massillon, Ohio. I currently reside on the West Side of Cleveland but am hoping to make my way south to be closer to the National Park.

Is there anything else that you'd like to share with the PRCHN and its stakeholders?
I'm looking forward to learning from the staff and those associated with the PRCHN, growing as a young professional, and having a positive impact in my corner of the world.
