New Data Brief: Physical Activity in Cuyahoga County
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) team has released the last of three data briefs examining adolescent health habits and status in Cuyahoga County. The data brief, Physical Activity in Cuyahoga County, uses data from the 2017 survey of Cuyahoga County high school students and 2016 survey of middle school students to look at active and sedentary behavior among county teens. The data brief series also includes Weight Status in Cuyahoga County and DIetary Behavior in Cuyahoga County.  Some key findings from the data brief:

  • 18% of Cuyahoga County high school students did not meet federal recommendations of at least 60 minutes/day on any of the previous seven days.
  • White middle and high school students are more likely to obtain recommended physical activity levels compared to both Black and Hispanic/Latino students.
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2 hours daily of TV/computer time; nearly 1 in 4 Cuyahoga County high school students report watching TV on school days for 3+ hours, and more than 2 in 5 reported using computers for non-school work 3+ hours.
